Material & Color Designer, Footwear

The Material & Color Designer, Footwear will support the Brooklyn Design Team in creating core and seasonal color/material designs from concept to completion. They will have a focus on the North American market, as well as contribute to global needs. They will communicate line drawings and material concepts to Product Development (PD), assist in aligning color/material needs to and from Brooklyn Studio & ECCO Denmark HQ and coordinate/manage the material library.

  

As our Material & Color Designer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Work alongside the HQ Material and Color Designers to communicate US-specific needs of all new materials and colors to Research & Innovation (RI); develop all new materials as agreed upon. Support with material orders via Product Development.
  • Take responsibility for holistic and modern application of materials and colors across the range and ensure alignment of US designs with global via consistent communication with stakeholders in the Denmark and Shanghai Studios.
  • Gather trend material/color input on behalf of market and BNY Designers and participate with HQ/Shanghai studios in preparation of seasonal material/color cards.
  • Alongside RI, attend material shows and support procurement of needed materials.
  • Initiate development of new materials in sandbox on behalf of Brooklyn Studio and align with RI-HQ.Take ownership of communication with RI and PD teams on behalf of BNY Design.
  • Prepare seasonal material and color proposals for BNY designs.
  • Create new design proposals and conceptual renderings/graphics as needed to support strategic conversations. 
  • Ability to translate consumer insights into thoughtful narratives and storytelling. 
  • Create and prepare concept mood boards/presentations as requested. 
  • Prepare material and color requirements for handover to PD; initiate and track prototype development. 
  • Communicate material needs for range building to PD according to standard timelines and deadlines. 
  • Follow the material/color SKU level and ensure it is kept within the target.
  • Maintain material library (leather/textiles/hardwares/etc.) and ensure alignment with HQ/BNY/Shanghai Studios.

If you have…  

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in CMF design, industrial design, or combination of relevant education / industry experience / training. 
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in color/material design pertaining to footwear or closely related industry involving product creation. 
  • General interest in following the trends and developments in the footwear industry and the ability to incorporate this into design work. 
  • Strong collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with local and global teams.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Product Lifestyle Management (PLM) software. 
  • Ability to read, write and speak English at a proficient level. 
  • Ability to travel up to 15% both domestic and internationally. 
  • Ability to physically open boxes of catalogues and swatches to upkeep material library.
